Creating Peripherals

I am working on a project for my Senior design class and we wanted to create a new peripheral using a linear actuator. When we connected the actuator to the Ramp Shield, the actuator would extend then stop and we couldn’t control how far it extended.We also had to flip the power and ground connections to get the actuator to retract. Is there a way to get our actuator connected where we can control its extension/retraction?

    > Link to Datasheet, etc

Assume you mean a 12VDC switched device similar to those on the Lighting, Water and Vacuum ports ?
